Let’s Get Started: How to Work with Redhead Creative Media

This is Part 5 of a 5-part series about Redhead Creative Media. Read Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, or Part 4.

We’ve covered what I believe. How I work. What you receive.

Today is about how to actually get started.

If you’ve been reading along and thinking, “This sounds exactly like what I need,” this is for you.

The Curiosity Call

The first step is always a curiosity call.

This is a 20-30 minute conversation where we figure out if we’re the right fit for each other – and whether the service you’re interested in actually meets your needs.

I’ll ask you:

  • What are you looking to create?
  • Where are you now versus where you’re headed?
  • What platforms and contexts need imagery?
  • What’s your timeline?
  • What matters most about why this work needs to happen right now?

Understanding the “why now” helps me determine if the service you selected on the inquiry form is really the best fit.

I’ll share with you:

  • Which service makes the most sense for your current needs
  • Investment details specific to your situation
  • Timeline expectations
  • What the overall process looks like

We’ll determine together:

  • Are we the right fit to work with each other?
  • Is this the right investment for you right now?
  • Do my approach and your needs align?

Why This Matters

Not everyone is ready for strategic, intentional photography right now.

And that’s okay.

This call helps us both get clarity without wasting your time or mine.

If we’re not a fit: You leave the call with all the information you need. No hard feelings, just clarity.

If we’re a fit: The next step is the sales agreement. Once you sign and I process the retainer, both your design consultation date and your session date are secured.

The Process Once You Book

Design Consultation (Within 10 Business Days)

This is a 30-60 minute strategic conversation that happens quickly after booking for one reason: to give you ample time to prepare for your session.

We’re going to answer three core questions:

  1. Are we the right fit to work with each other?
  2. Is this the right investment for you right now?
  3. Do my approach and your needs align?

We’ll talk through all the session logistics: colors, wardrobe, vibe, and location (if appropriate to your story and what we need to do for it).

This is where 80% of the work happens, before you ever step foot in the studio or on location.

All the preparation is essential to ensuring the success of your session.

Preparation Time

Having the Design Consultation conversation so quickly gives you weeks, not days, to prepare.

This gives you plenty of time to:

  • Gather your wardrobe based on what we discussed in the consultation
  • Finalize any location details
  • Coordinate any other elements

There’s no rushing involved, no last-minute scrambling trying to gather props and accessories.

You show up to the session confident and ready.

The Session

The day of your session will look different depending on the service type you booked.

It could be a half-day or full-day. It could have fully guided posing or just prompts. It depends on the session type and your needs.

Either way, your session will include:

  • Multiple setups and looks
  • Film clips captured throughout
  • And for Portrait Interviews: an on-camera interview as part of the experience

You’ll see everything immediately afterwards at the image reveal and selection.

Post-Production

For all the imagery and film you purchase, I handle all editing and retouching.

I make strategic decisions in this phase that reinforce everything we talked about in the design consultation.

My approach: Natural retouching.

I want you to look like yourself, just elevated. Not a plastic, warped version of yourself. You.

For sessions that don’t include retouching (like The Postpartum Project), I still do some work on the images: cleaning up backgrounds, adjusting tone, and making minor adjustments. I’m just not retouching skin.

Delivery

You can expect to see the initial version of your images 3-4 weeks after your session (depending on how busy I am at the time).

You get one round of revisions.

Then, when the finals are delivered, they are:

  • In all promised formats
  • Ready to use immediately

Practical Expectations

Timeline

  • This is not a same-day or same-week turnaround
  • Plan 4-8 weeks in advance (or more)
  • Design consultation within 10 business days of booking
  • This gives you maximum time to prepare
  • Digital delivery is 2-3 weeks after the session
  • Physical artwork is typically in your hands 6-8 weeks after the session

Investment

  • The investment is about strategy, not just session time in the studio
  • Includes: design consultation, creative direction, retouching
  • Depending on session type: professional hair and makeup, variety of looks, guided posing
  • Investment details shared in the curiosity call
  • Complete transparency, no surprises

Location

  • Sessions typically happen at my studio in Chapel Hill, NC
  • Outside locations are an option at an additional fee
  • We determine what serves your story best

Who This Is For

You’re ready to work with me if:

  • You recognize your visual presence doesn’t currently match your expertise
  • You’re stepping onto bigger stages
  • You have a story that deserves to be witnessed and preserved
  • You value strategy and intentionality
  • You’re ready to invest time in the planning process
  • You understand visual presence is strategic infrastructure, not vanity

This isn’t for you if:

  • You’re looking for just a single headshot
  • You’re looking for the cheapest option available
  • You’re not willing to invest time in planning
  • You want template-style imagery

And that’s okay.

This work is not for everyone. It’s for people who understand that how you’re seen matters—and who are ready to be intentional about it.
